Description
Add a prominent piece of Arctic design history to your home with this vintage 1979 Inuit soapstone seal sculpture. Hand-carved by renowned artist Akeekee Pootoogook, this collectible piece introduces masterfully fluid, minimalist lines to any mid-century modern interior.
Originating from the historic art community of Kinngait (Cape Dorset, Nunavut), this stylized seal is hand-sculpted from natural green soapstone. The sculpture beautifully showcases the smooth, organic contours iconic to late 20th-century Canadian art. Fully authenticated, the piece features the artist’s native Inuktitut Syllabics (ᐊᑭᑭ) incised on the tail fin and retains its original Canadian government Igloo Certification Tag, proving its historical procurement by the legendary Hudson's Bay Company.
Style this museum-worthy carving as a standalone centerpiece on a teak sideboard, or let it anchor a curated gallery shelving display alongside retro-modern ceramics.
